Immune responses to Neisseria gonorrhoeae and implications for vaccine development

چکیده

Neisseria gonorrheoae is the causative agent of gonorrhea, a sexually transmitted infection responsible for major burden disease with high global prevalence. Protective immunity to often not observed in humans, possible due variability key antigens, induction blocking antibodies, or large number infections being relatively superficial and inducing strong immune response. N. gonorrhoeae strictly human pathogen, however, studies using mouse models provide useful insights into response gonorrhea. In mice, gonorrhoea appears avoid protective Th1 by less Th17 models, candidate vaccines which provoke can accelerate clearance gonococcus from female genital tract. Human indicate that natural induces limited response, modest antibody responses, may correlate clinical severity gonococcal disease. Studies cytokine responses humans conflicting evidence as whether an IL-17 However, there study sex workers Kenya. A controlled model (CHIM) has been used examine male volunteers, but date demonstrated protection against re-infection. Correlates gonorrhea are lacking, hampered progress towards developing successful vaccine. finding meningitidis serogroup B vaccines, elicit cross-protection invigorated vaccine field. More either CHIM studies, needed understand better immunity.

Mouse strain-dependent differences in susceptibility to Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection and induction of innate immune responses.

Acute gonorrhea in women is characterized by a mucopurulent exudate that contains polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) with intracellular gonococci. Asymptomatic infections are also common. Information on the innate response to Neisseria gonorrhoeae in women is limited to studies with cultured cells, isolated immune cells, and analyses of cervicovaginal fluids. 17beta-Estradiol-treated BALB/c mi...

Immune response to a purified cytoplasmic protein of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

This paper describes studies based on the hypothesis that the immunogenicity of the gonococcus is impaired by a component toxic to immunocytes. Cytoplasm of colony type 1 gonococci was found to contain a protein fraction beta+t not present in colony type 4 gonococci. From the results of further analysis it is tentatively deduced that beta+t consists of a toxic component Tbeta-t and an immunogen.

Review Naturally acquired human immune responses against Helicobacter pylori and implications for vaccine development

Preface Helicobacter pylori has been identified as a causative agent of gastroduodenal pathology. Vaccination studies with mouse models have shown that immunisation with bacterial antigens can provide protection against infection, indicating that it may be possible to design vaccines which terminate colonisation by H pylori or prevent it from taking place. Here, we review critically current kno...
